One of the oldest traditions in art is drawing the figure. For centuries the study of the figure has been at the heart of artistic training. This tradition can be traced back to such artists as Leonardo and Michelangelo. The drawing workshop will incorporate a live semi-clothed model (male or female) to achieve this same traditional approach to figure drawing. We will employ a long pose using an organizational line drawing technique to render the form, proportions and placement within the picture plane, and value to model form. Materials needed for the workshop: You will need to bring HB or 2B pencil and kneaded or plastic eraser. 

Dive into the exciting world of graphic design by creating your own signature logo! In this assignment, you’ll explore the art of personal branding as you design a logo that captures your unique identity and style. From brainstorming and sketching to digitizing your design using professional software, you’ll gain hands-on experience in creating a memorable visual identity. Not only will you develop essential design skills, but you’ll also have the chance to showcase your creativity and make a statement with a logo that’s all about you. Join us for this creative journey and see how your personal brand can come to life!

In this hands-on digital photography workshop we will experiment with color gels and studio lighting to create a variety of images in the UIndy Photo Area lighting studio. No prior experience working with studio lighting is required, cameras will be supplied. Each student will leave the workshop with a poster-sized print of one of their images. Be advised that this workshop will include use of flash. Please do not register for this workshop if you are flash sensitive.

In this workshop we will discuss various elements needed to create a successful character, creature, or monster design. We will cover shape design, mood, worldbuilding, and more concepts illustrators use in their respective industries. Participants will utilize UIndy’s digital and traditional illustration studio and create and take home a finished design. 

Join us for an exciting workshop in which you will explore the world of printmaking and book arts at UIndy’s Hullabaloo Press. During this workshop you will dive into several processes such as letterpress printing, hand-binding, and button-making. This interactive day will guide you through the processes giving you the opportunity to try as many as time allows and learn about their history and applications. You’ll leave our workshop with multiple creative works to trade, share or keep. No experience or materials required. 

Learn cold (riveting) and hot (welding) joining techniques in the sculpture studio to join metal together. This exploration will include many different pieces of equipment in the sculpture studio and allow you to explore the potential of materials. Note: Be sure to wear cotton jeans without rips, close toed shoes and a cotton shirt. Other required safety equipment will be provided.

The workshop will revolve around coil building vessels as a canvas to depict scenes. We will work to build forms to construct scenes, figures, and other objects. Focusing on the balance of decoration and functionality the adroments will rely on additive and subtractive processes that we will experiment with throughout the day.  These functional yet decorative forms will have the opportunity to be addressed with color through underglaze application at the leather hard stage allowing participants to take away the piece on another day.

who play jazz to come engage in morning and afternoon rehearsals, interact with UIndy’s jazz faculty members, and participate in an end-of-day performance.
